Yep, I know I just posted on Sunday evening, and the schedule is one post per week, but I have a favor to ask. My new website is now designed to receive comments on the blog page. This post is basically a test to see if the comments work, how convenient they are for you, and whether you enjoy giving feedback on my whimsical ramblings. I hope so because I would enjoy your thoughts and interaction. Subscribers, first time readers, and regular non-subscription readers, please share a thought or two via the comment box. That way I’ll know everything is up and running.
If you haven’t perused my new site, please do. I have many new images in each of the eight portfolios. Clicking on the Home Page portfolio (say, Children’s Books) will bring that image to the center of the screen, and then you simply use your keyboard arrows to flip through the images. Each portfolio has nine images. Whether you look at one picture, or all 72, I’m delighted you stopped by.
If you’re reading for the first time, skimming the previous Art and Whimsy posts will provide some loose continuity. They stand alone, but each contribute to my attempt to flesh out the nature of whimsical imagery, why I think it resonates with us, and how it has been used historically and globally. I like to think of this as a serious look at whimsy.
Thanks for participating in the test, reading my posts, and for checking out my site. Take care and have a good evening, morning, or afternoon, depending on when you read this.
Ed
The illustrations are refreshing. Art inspires art and I am looking forward to using your services for children’s works.
The blog and portfolio look wonderful! I’ve enjoyed catching up on your last few posts. I, too, have had birds on the mind. Last weekend, I helped create a habitat for my daughter’s pet button quail (they don’t actually fly, but still… ) and today Terry and I had a lovely encounter with Mama Duck and her six ducklings near the mermaid statue in Francis Park.
Thanks Ruth!
I didn’t know quail don’t fly. But the habitat sounds cool. I need to photograph the mermaid and think of a post about it. Hope to see you and Terry and the park again. Thanks for your kind words about my work and blog. I think Travis Stewart, the web designer, did a great job. Take care.

Hi Ed,
Your art is great – you are right, most ‘religious’ art should be serious, but…
What if, in the picture of Jesus talking to the people on the hillside (Sermon on the Mount?), you had those two little boys on the left tussling with each other and their momma giving them ‘the eye’ – would that be an appropriate insertion of humor?
Thanks Connie!
Yeah, a tussle might work, but it would have to pass the client’s scrutiny!
Yes, I read your blog. There a lot of great art and information here. Your website looks wonderful! I like being able to leave comments.
Thanks Dayne! Yes, receiving the comments is great too. Thanks for reading and for your kind words about my art and site.
Yo, Ed – Love this!! Just a thought from a techno dummie: what if the comment section was on the right hand column, next to the current post? Then, you wouldn’t hafta scroll down through all the posts to make your own comment? I almost did not do that….Oh, well, that’s my only (current) idea. Love your stuff, man, as always…When are you gonna do a drawing of Captain Jean Luc Picard????
Thanks Betsy! I think the template determines what goes where, but I’m not a behind the scenes tech guy. I can do bells and whistles using drawing and painting programs, but don’t let me go too far behind the curtain. The comment box will only appear at the bottom of the most current post (if I understand correctly), and hopefully will be easy to get to. Thanks for subscribing. Say hi to Stan!
Nice Blog!
Thanks Dottie! I hope you get a chance to read the previous Art and Whimsy posts. I welcome your feedback. Take care.
Hi! Testing to see if my comment posts.
Love the kangaroo and bird illustration — very whimsical. Of course, I love your blog, too. I look forward to future posts.
Thank you!
Working now!
Wonderful, thanks Sandy!
Love your artwork, and your blog, Ed! Keep up the great work! 🙂
Great, thanks Kim!
Ed, here’s a test comment for you! I’ve really enjoyed seeing your art and all of the different styles you have created.
Thanks so much. A pleasure working with you, Travis. I’ll be sure to spread your name around town. I know lots of artists, and if you enjoy doing their kind of sites, I can let them know about you at the Artists Guild and other places. Just a heads up, I’m probably the most mentally stable in the whole bunch, so you may want to think carefully about working with anymore of our ilk.
Nah, just kidding, they are some of the best and the brightest in our field.
